When ordering seed and planning for your farming, knowing how many seeds are in a packet or sachet is quite helpful. The quantity of seeds or the weight of seeds are normally indicated on the package by most seed companies.

Frequently, the weight of the seed in the sachet is given first, followed by a bigger weight unit number (gram, kilogram etc). You can get a good idea of how many seeds are in a sachet by following the step by step guide here.

Here’s how to estimate the number of seeds in a sachet for Cabbage, Tomato, Watermelon, Chilli, Beetroot etc.

How To Know The Numbers Of Seeds In One Packet

From the image above, here’s how to calculate the total number of seeds in a 10g sachet of Cabbage seed. The average seeds per gram of cabbage is 300. When you buy a sachet with 10g, it means you have a total of 3,000 seeds in that 10g packet i.e 300 x 10 = 3,000.

For Tomato, an average seeds per gram is 265. When you purchase a sachet with 100g written on it, it means you have 265 x 100 = 26,500 seeds in that sachet.

For Watermelon, an average seeds per gram is 14. When you purchase a sachet with 20g written on it, it means you have 14 x 20 = 280 seeds in that sachet. Same goes for Chili and Beetroot. All you need to do is multiply the seed per gram in the images by the weight of any packet you buy.

How To Know The Numbers Of Seeds In One Packet

For Maize, an average seeds per gram is 10. When you have a sachet with 500g written on it, it means you have 10 x 500 = 5,000 seeds in that sachet. The image above shows how you can estimate the total number of seeds in Amaranth, Broccoli, Capsicum, Carrot, Cowpea, Eggplant, Lettuce, Okra, Spinach etc. To know the numbers of seeds in a packet, just follow this simple math.
